Ms. Mikki’s Classroom News
1-15-17

MS. MIKKI AND MS. JESSIE WILL BE ABSENT FROM SCHOOL ON TUESDAY FOR A CONFERENCE.  MS. NAOMI AND A SUBSTITUTE WILL BE HERE.

Well I’m glad we all survived the epic ice storm of 2017!  I hope you all enjoyed the 4 day weekend!  I’m ready to get back into a consistent routine.  How about you?

This week:  This week (and last) we read several stories about Bears.  We read Bear Snores On, and learned about hibernation.  We also read Goldilocks and The 3 Bears.  We practiced listening for comprehension.  You can practice this at home as well.  After you read a story to your child, ask them to recall a couple of events that took place.  For example:  Whose chair did Goldilocks break?  Whose porridge was hot?  What happened after the bears came home?

They also had a great time with their animals from home.   They did such a great job listening with their animals in circle time, that I’ve decided that they may bring a stuffed animal to school everyday.  This has shown to help them stay focused during circle time.

We had fun Going on a Bear Hunt with Dr. Jean (youtube).

Math:  This month’s goal is recognizing and naming 5 basic shapes.

Recognizing:  If you say, “point to the circle”, can they point to the circle?
Naming:   If you hold up the circle and ask, “What shape is this?”.  Can they tell you the name of the shape?

I sent home a shapes activity bag with each child.  I hope that you will take some time each day to work on shape identification with your child.  You may keep the contents of the bag, but please send the empty bag back to school.  I will continue to send home activities to do to help them learn these shapes:  circle, square, triangle, rectangle, and oval.

Reminders:

Tuition:  Please make sure that you are sending tuition in each week and you are not falling behind.  I send out a weekly email with a tuition receipt or reminder.  Thanks for staying on top of things!

Progress Reports:  If you have not signed and sent back your child’s progress report, please do so this week.

Snacks/Fruit:  Any donations of fruits or veggies would be wonderful to serve with snack.
Suggestions: Bananas, strawberries, grapes, fruit cups, cutie oranges/tangerines, apples, baby carrots, celery, broccoli and ranch.  If you are interested in being put on a fruit/veggie snack calendar and being assigned a week to donate those items, let me know and I will work on a calendar.  Thank you so much!

Mighty Mason-  As you may or may not know, Mason (Ms. Karen’s class), is our classmate’s (Lainey) brother.  He has currently been transported to Pennsylvania to undergo more surgeries to repair his heart.   First and foremost we are asking for positive thoughts or prayers for these surgeries to work, and for him to return back home and school.  We have sent home a Mighty Mason t shirt flyer.  Please consider showing your support by purchasing a t shirt.  You may also make a financial contribution at Southern Bank.  Just let them know to deposit it in Mason’s account.  Thank you!

Box Tops:  We are collecting Box Tops for Education.  Please send them in as you collect them.  Thank you!

Book Orders:   Book orders are due
