Ms. Mikki's News January 28, 2018

News from Ms. Mikki
January 28, 2018
Yay!  We finally got a full week in.  It was great to see everyone back…...again!  Cross your fingers for no more snow!  I sent home a Bear Counting and number matching activity for you to do with your child.  It’s yours to keep and you don’t need to send it back.  The possibilities are endless..  You can simply have them count the bears and find the bear with the corresponding number.  You can roll a dice and find the page that has the matching number.  You can color each set of bears a different color.

BOOK ORDERS ARE DUE ON TUESDAY JANUARY 30th.  Sorry for the quick order.  Last week’s snow days didn’t help.

Valentine’s Boxes:  Both classes will be decorating a Valentine Bag during their party.  You DO NOT need to send in a box.  However, we will be doing Valentine’s exchanges during the party.  Our wonderful room moms will be sending home a letter and class list soon.
January Learning Targets:

Investigates position and locations-  I can identify first, middle, last.

Listens for different purposes-  I can carry out 2-3 simple related directions in order.

I show understanding of the concepts of same and different
Literacy:

This week we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Bear’s Colors.  During circle time we shared our favorite color.  We also took turns sharing out things that matched each color we read about in the books.  I gave them clues and they had to guess what I was thinking.

You can play this game too!  It’s a great conversation piece to play in the car.  This is areat way to build vocabulary.

I’m thinking of something that is red.  It grows on a tree.  We can eat them.  What is it?...........

Math:

We set up counting and color sorting stations in our math center.

During circle time we practiced identifying small numbers as we “hunted for the bear”.  They had to guess which # the bear was hiding behind.

Science:  We made predictions as to what was going to happen when we added hot water to our ring of skittles.

We also had fun making ice cream!  I hope you caught the video on SeeSaw.

Inclement Weather Policy:  If the district calls for a “Late Start” preschool will be cancelled for the day.

Ms. Mikki's News Jan. 11

News from Ms. Mikki
January 11, 2018
What a fun week with our teddy bears and other furry friends.  We did several activities with our animals.  Our furry friends were invited to join us during circle.  They helped reinforce self control behaviors on the carpet.  Our friends had to remain in our laps and weren’t allowed to touch our neighbor.  The students did a wonderful job in modeling acceptable circle time self control behaviors. They each took turns introducing their furry friend to the group.  In turn, we practiced our listening and turn taking skills as our friends introduced their furry friend.  We enjoyed doing several Teddy Bear activities and movements songs that helped us learn position words (up, down, around), listening for a purpose, and body part identification.  We also enjoyed going on our very own Bear Hunt when we returned to the classroom for snack and our furry friends had gone missing from the table!  Some were reading in the library center, some were painting at the easel, and other mischievous activities.
January Learning Targets:

Investigates position and locations-  I can identify first, middle, last.

Listens for different purposes-  I can carry out 2-3 simple related directions in order.

I show understanding of the concepts of same and different
Literacy:

Letter identification:  T and B.  We made a chart of words that start with T and B.  Each child was given a word.  We looked at the word on the card and located the FIRST letter of the word and named the letter.  They then placed their word in the appropriate T or B column.

We also read Going on a bear hunt.  We used our imagination about what sounds certain actions might make.  For example:  walking through mud (squelch, squish).

Math:

Teddy Graham counting.  We used the Teddy Grahams to count during snack.

Gummy Bear Math:  This was a class pleaser!  They had to practice listening for a purpose so they could complete the activity.  They sorted by color, they counted each color, and placed them on the graph.  We talked about more and less.  We also identified the FIRST color on the game board (red)  and the LAST color on the game board (white).

Inclement Weather Policy:  If the district calls for a “Late Start” preschool will be cancelled for the day.

Welcome back

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great relaxing Christmas Break!  We look forward to more learning and fun this new year.

Just a few reminders:

  • We have our first PAT Storytime/Playgroup this Friday from 10:00-11:00.  Remember preschoolers are still a part of PAT.  We hope to see you at as many PAT events as  possible this semester.  Please don’t forget you must attend at least 2 more PAT events this Spring to remain eligible for preschool services.

  • Well….the weather outside is definitely frightful!  Please make sure your child wears a heavy coat, and has a hat and mittens packed in their backpacks.  Although we don’t go outside in the extremely cold temperatures, we will try to get outside as much as possible.

  • Sick policy-  Please review the sick policy written in the handbook.  If you need another copy of it, please let me know.  When in doubt, sit them out.  They must be symptom free for 24 hours.  That is often confused with “overnight”.  If they went to bed with a fever and woke up fever free, that is not 24 hours.  Please help us keep everyone healthy and stop this vicious cycle illness.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

  • Tuition for January is due this week.  $150.00.

  • Stay connected:  Please make sure you are following my Facebook page.  Ms. Mikki’s Clever Preschool, as well as our Parents As Teachers page, Clever Parents As Teachers.
