Ms. Mikki's Newsletter
Oct. 14th

NO SCHOOL MONDAY, OCTOBER 17th
PICTURE DAY TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18TH

This week:  We had a very eventful week this week!  First up was the visit from our local firefighters.  We learned that the bad smoke filled air goes up and the good air we want to breathe is down low.  So we must “stay low and go” to get out of a smoke filled room.  We got to practice this skill in the smoke house.  They also showed us a smoke detector, sounded it off and asked us to find the smoke detectors in our homes and to check the batteries.  Did you know that if you are in need of smoke detectors you can contact the fire department and they will make sure you have some for your home?

Of course we can’t forget the trip to the pumpkin patch.  It was a little damp and cool, but it looked like everyone had a great time.  We will continue to learn about pumpkins in our science center this week.  Thank you to those who donated large pumpkins for our classroom.

Reminders:

Book orders are due this week.  Please make payment online or by check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs.  We cannot accept cash for book orders.

Book Fair:  I apologize for the confusion with the Book Fair letter that was sent home.  We will not be visiting the Book Fair as a class (like stated in the letter).  However, please pay special attention to the Book Fair dates and times.  Parents are welcome to attend the Book Fair during shopping hours this week.

NO SCHOOL OCTOBER 24th:  There will be no 3 year old preschool on Monday, October 24th.  Ms. Mikki and Ms. Jessie will be attending a conference.

This time of the year is the sign-up for requesting gifts from Toys for Tots.  There will be donation drop-off boxes at many stores in the coming months but if your family would appreciate assistance with gifts during the holidays, you can go to http://springfield-mo.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/ and make a request online.

Beef Raffle:  Our Care To Learn chapter is selling raffle tickets for a full processed beef.  Tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50.  We will deliver the animal to the processor for the winner.  The winner will choose how they'd like it processed (steaks, hamburger, etc) and will pick up the final product.  Old Field Processing has donated the processing fees and King/Teague Farms has donated the animal.  The winner may choose to have the animal processed, or they may chose to take the cash (market value at the time of sale).  The drawing will be held in November.  If you'd like to enter the raffle, please send your money in a sealed envelope with Care To Learn, your name and phone number on it.  I will turn it into the Central Office and submit your ticket and send you the stub.  If you would like a pack of tickets to sell to your friends, family and co-workers let me know and I will get those to you as well.  If you sell the winning ticket, you will receive $100!

Clever Wear:  This week during conferences there will be samples of Clever Spirit Wear for you to look at in the office.  We will have adult and youth sizes.  We will be taking orders until November 11th.  Items will be ready in December (before we leave for break).  These would make awesome Christmas gifts.  We will also be sending home order forms.

Wish list:
1.  Please save and send in the lids from your gallons of milk.  We are collecting them for a name building activity.
