Ms. Mikki's Newsletter
Oct. 10th

This week:  Hello Fall weather!  This week will be a busy busy week.  We look forward to our field trip to the Campbell's Farms pumpkin patch on Thursday.  If you still have not turned in your permission slip, waivers and $5 for the trip, please send it to school no later than Wednesday.  If you need a field trip permission slip, please let me know and I'll send one home with your child.  This week is also Fire Safety week.  The Clever Fire Department will be visiting our classroom on Wednesday at 8:50.  Tuesday/Thursday classes are welcome to come at 8:50 to join us.  We will visit the Smoke House at 9:15.  This is a hands on learning experience that children will have the opportunity to practice getting out of a house safely.  Of course the smoke isn't real.

What are we learning?  It's hard to believe that we've already been in school for almost 2 months.  They have come so far already in learning school routines, how to share, and solve problems using language.  Here are some milestones we will be working on over the course of the month.

1.  Count to 10
2.  Place 3 objects in order based on one characteristic (smallest to largest)

Social/Emotional:
1.  Dress and undress myself with out help (put on own jacket, shoes).  We will be working towards independence on buttons and zippers.
2.  Can tell first AND last name.  (They all have their first name down).

Motor (Gross)
1.  Balance on 1 leg for more than 5 seconds.
2.  Jump forward on two feet (feet together).
3.  Hop on 1 foot.

Motor (Fine)
1.  Fasten and unfasten my own clothing.
2.  Copy simple symbols (letters, shapes)

Goal Setting:  I am sending home a Goal Setting handout.  Please take some time to reflect on one goal that you would like to set for your family or your child.  We will be setting a goal during your P/T Conference.  Bring this form to your conference.  Please fill in the top part (the goal).  We will work on the rest of the form together.

Beef Raffle:  Our Care To Learn chapter is selling raffle tickets for a full processed beef.  Tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50.  We will deliver the animal to the processor for the winner.  The winner will choose how they'd like it processed (steaks, hamburger, etc) and will pick up the final product.  Old Field Processing has donated the processing fees and King/Teague Farms has donated the animal.  The winner may chose to have the animal processed, or they may choose to take the cash (market value at the time of sale).  The drawing will be held in November.  If you'd like to enter the raffle, please send your money in a sealed envelope with Care To Learn, your name and phone number on it.  I will turn it into the Central Office and submit your ticket and send you the stub.  If you would like a pack of tickets to sell to your friends, family and co-workers let me know and I will get those to you as well.  If you sell the winning ticket, you will receive $100!

Clever Wear:  Next week during conferences there will be samples of Clever Spirit Wear for you to look at in the office.  We will have adult and youth sizes.  We will be taking orders until November 11th.  Items will be ready in December (before we leave for break).  These would make awesome Christmas gifts.  We will also be sending home order forms.

Wish list:
1.  Please save and send in the lids from your gallons of milk.  We are collecting them for a name building activity.
2.  Pumpkins-  We would like to have 4 or 5 medium or large pumpkins for our classroom.  If you are willing to pick one up for us, that would be wonderful!
