Ms. Mikki’s Classroom News
April 24th, 2017

Last week:  I am in the process of finishing up progress reports.  I am so pleased to see all of the progress these little guys have made!  I have been posting some of the skills on See Saw.  Here are some things you can continue to practice on:

  • Counting beyond 5
  • Tag counting:  pointing to an object and saying 1, pointing to the next and saying 2
  • Singing the ABC’s
  • Ordering things by size (smallest to biggest)
  • Holding their pencil or crayon correctly
  • Naming the first letter in their name, spelling their name verbally
  • Practice writing their name

We have enjoyed reading several Pete The Cat books over the last few weeks.  We are starting to identify the “character” in stories.  We also continue to identify new vocabulary words that we happen upon and relating them to the works that we already know.  We also are recalling events in the story, and I’m using position words during recall.  Ex:  What happened BEFORE Pete lost his sunglasses?  What happened AFTER?

We have some new favorite songs during circle time.
  • My mother is a baker-  this song requires them to recall and sequence actions with each family member.  Ex:  Mother is a baker- rubs her belly.  Father is a trash man-  shoe-ey, etc.  See if they can sing parts of the song.
  • Monkeys and Alligators-  We’ve been using our monkey manipulatives to practice early math skills (adding and subtracting) as they move one monkey off their tray when cued by the song.

A big THANK YOU for everyone who got to come to our Cruisin’ Into Spring event Thursday night!  We were so glad the rain held off so we could cruise around the playground!

Make A Wish fundraiser:  WOW!!  We were able to raise over $800 last week for Make A Wish!  Don’t forget to come out this Tuesday to the baseball fields for our Make A Wish Swinging for the Stars event.  There will be vendors giving out freebies, games and events during the baseball and softball games, and tons of fun.  Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students K-12 and PK and younger are FREE!  We hope to see you there to help us raise funds for our Wish Kid- Caydon!  Festivities start at 4:30 on Tuesday the 25th.

Reminders:

Mighty Mason-
With the heaviest of hearts we say goodbye to our Mighty Mason. We have no words that can begin to convey our love and sympathy. He fought the toughest battle that no child should ever have to fight. We were all blessed beyond measure to have known him as he touched the hearts of every single person he ever met. Please keep his family in your thoughts.
Mason, we love you!

A fund has been set up at all area Southern Bank locations for the Guccione family. You can make a deposit on your own at any location, or you can send a donation to class with your child.  If you are writing a check, please make it out to Mikki Teague or Rachel Simons.  Please put in the memo “Mighty Mason donation”.
